Busan court sentences group behind paid revenge attacks

A Busan court sentenced five people for arranging or carrying out attacks on homes and an office.

The group took revenge-for-hire requests through a Telegram chat room, charging 2.5 million won per job.

The scheme began when a man seeking repayment from three people he had lent money to agreed to use their involvement in the crimes to settle the debt.

In March, participants smeared feces and cat litter at homes and a law office, sprayed paint, and left insulting material and a threat against a victim’s family.

The court gave the organizer two years in prison, suspended for three years, while the other four received prison terms ranging from six months to one year and eight months.

The judge called the crimes extremely serious, but considered their admissions and limited gains when deciding the sentences.
