Man taken to hospital after trying to rescue dog from Apeldoorn canal

On Wednesday morning, a man jumped into a canal in Apeldoorn to save his dog after it fell in and could not get out.

The man then could not get out of the water himself.

Bystanders called emergency services, and firefighters rescued him; ambulance staff treated him at the scene.

He was taken to hospital urgently, but his condition is not known.

Police officers pulled the dog from the water and took it in.
