Microsoft updates Surface Laptop Ultra to fix reboot and screen issues
Microsoft has released the first firmware update for its Surface Laptop Ultra, six days after the laptop went on sale.
The update targets long reboot times, screen flickering and unexpected restarts, and also promises other bug fixes and performance gains.
The update is arriving in stages, and Microsoft says it cannot be removed once installed; owners can check for it in the Surface app.
The laptop is Microsoft's first Surface with Nvidia's custom RTX Spark chip and a Mini LED screen, making it a new hardware combination for the company.
Reviewers have also raised concerns about the display, including slow response, ghosting and weak local dimming, which the update cannot fix.
Battery-life tests have varied: one measured about nine hours of video playback, while another benchmark run was closer to 14 hours.
The update addresses some early problems, but other reported limitations remain, including battery life and app and game compatibility on Microsoft's Arm-based platform.
