Meta raises minimum AI investment forecast to $135 billion

Meta plans to spend at least $135 billion this year expanding its artificial intelligence infrastructure.

It raised the lower end of its spending forecast by $5 billion, while keeping the top end at $145 billion.

The company is building data centres to compete with AI leaders such as OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT.

Meta owns Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Threads, and its advertising business is providing the money for the expansion.

Quarterly revenue rose 26% to $64.6 billion, while profit was $9.86 billion, compared with $2.7 billion a year earlier.

At least one Meta app reached 3.64 billion users, up from 3.6 billion three months earlier.

Meta’s spending plans show how much it is investing in AI, and the company expects to continue its expansion within the stated range.
