Vehicle reliability in Mexico holds steady as technology problems persist
A study of 10,471 owners of 2023-model vehicles found that vehicle reliability in Mexico stayed level at 229 problems per 100 vehicles, the same as in 2025.
Plug-in hybrids had the fewest reported problems, at 212 per 100 vehicles, while electric vehicles had the most, at 260.
Problems with hybrids rose by 36 per 100 vehicles compared with the previous year, and Bluetooth connection faults nearly doubled.
Bluetooth trouble was also among the most reported issues for gasoline-car owners, while easily dirtied assistance-camera lenses ranked among the top three problems across all engine types.
JAC and Great Wall Motor led volume brands for quality and reliability, with 115 and 147 problems per 100 vehicles, respectively.
Japanese-built vehicles had the lowest rate by country of production, at 197 problems per 100 vehicles.
The findings show that everyday technology issues remain a source of frustration, even as the overall reliability measure has not changed.
Vehicle reliability in Mexico remained unchanged from 2025, at 229 problems per 100 vehicles, according to J.D. Power’s 2026 study.
Plug-in hybrids had the fewest reported problems among powertrain types, while electric vehicles had the most.
Bluetooth connectivity problems and easily soiled driver-assistance camera lenses remained common sources of frustration.
JAC and Great Wall Motor were the highest-ranked volume brands for reliability, while MINI led luxury brands.
The study was based on responses from 10,471 original owners of 2023 model-year vehicles.
