Fire destroys agricultural hall in Lehesten, causing about €500,000 in damage

A fire destroyed a hall at an agricultural cooperative in Lehesten, in Germany’s Thuringia region, during the night into Sunday.

The building was used for storage and machinery, and four vehicles and equipment were also destroyed.

Four people were rescued from a nearby home, which firefighters kept from catching fire.

One report says a woman breathed in smoke and was treated at the scene, while another says no one was injured.

Smoke led authorities to warn people in Lehesten to keep windows and doors closed, and firefighters stopped the flames from spreading to other buildings.

Police estimate the damage at about €500,000, and the cause of the fire has not been established.
