Russia says strikes hit three ships and two power substations in Ukraine

Russia said its forces hit three cargo vessels carrying military goods for Ukraine in and near the Black Sea ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk.

It said one ship carried weapons and military equipment, another carried dual-use cargo, and a third was bound for Ukraine's armed forces.

The Russian Defence Ministry also said strikes hit two power substations in Dnipropetrovsk and Zhytomyr that supplied electricity to defence-related industries.

Ukraine's energy company DTEK said an overnight attack damaged facilities in Dnipropetrovsk and left more than 600,000 people without electricity.

The Russian claims about the ships and substations could not be independently verified, and Ukraine had not immediately commented.

The outage shows how attacks on energy infrastructure can affect civilians as well as industry.

The sources give no details on repairs or when power might be restored.
