Police Cut Power to Rebuilt Drug Stalls in West Jakarta

During an operation on October 15, a joint team raided Kampung Ambon in West Jakarta after drug-selling stalls were rebuilt following earlier police demolition.

Police worked with the state electricity company, PLN, to cut power to several buildings used as stalls.

Some of the stalls had also taken electricity without using meters.

The operation detained seven people, and six tested positive for drug use.

Officers seized cannabis, a small amount of methamphetamine, drug-use equipment, scales and dozens of weapons, including 47 bladed weapons.

Police cut the stalls’ electricity to stop them being used again and said the move was intended to deter the sellers.

The operation involved 165 personnel from national and Jakarta police units and the Jakarta branch of Indonesia’s National Narcotics Agency.

Some stalls were rebuilt, so we cut their electricity supply to prevent them from being used again, and also because they were stealing electricity by taking it directly from outside the meter.
