Türkiye stays Europe's sixth-largest car market despite falling sales
Türkiye sold 627,977 passenger cars in the first nine months of 2026, a 15.45% drop from a year earlier.
It remained Europe’s sixth-largest passenger car market, behind Germany, Britain, Italy, France and Spain.
Across the EU, EFTA countries and Britain, registrations rose 6.3% to 10.56 million, while all five markets ahead of Türkiye grew.
Battery-electric car sales in Türkiye fell 9.1% to 120,329, the only decline among Europe’s 10 largest markets for these cars.
Even so, electric cars made up 19.2% of Türkiye’s shrinking market, up from 17.8% a year earlier; hybrids remained the largest category at 36.3%.
The figures show Türkiye holding its European ranking even as its overall and electric-car sales fell.
Türkiye’s place in proposed “Made in EU” rules remains uncertain, as the plan to support European production against Chinese competition is still under discussion.
