DAX falls 0.8% as oil, tech and French debt worries weigh

Germany’s DAX fell 0.8% on Friday, closing at 25,182 points, just above the 25,000 mark.

The index lost 1.7% over the week as investors turned away from riskier shares.

Rising oil prices and worries about France’s public finances added to pressure on markets.

Brent crude traded at about $117 a barrel, while yields on French 10-year government bonds reached around 5.10%, their highest level since May 2002.

Investors also questioned whether heavy AI spending will bring enough profit, after concerns about technology companies weighed on shares.

Some investors moved into German and US government bonds, whose yields fell during the week, as they sought safer investments.

Central banks are in focus next week; one analyst expects no rate change from either the US Federal Reserve or the European Central Bank, but considers another increase by each in December likely.
