Angels-Rendon contract ends after seven years and limited playing time

Anthony Rendon’s seven-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels has ended after the 2026 season.

The contract was worth $245 million and began after Rendon helped the Washington Nationals win the 2019 World Series.

Rendon played in only about a quarter of the Angels’ games during the contract; reports give slightly different estimates of his share.

He missed many games because of injuries, and he did not play in 2026 after undergoing surgery.

The Angels received far less playing time than the contract’s scale suggested, while Rendon’s Angels record was 22 home runs and a .242 batting average.

The team has agreed to pay $38 million of deferred salary in yearly installments through 2030.

The contract’s end reduces the Angels’ payroll burden, giving the team more room under the luxury-tax threshold for the next season.
