Turkey to unveil 2040 energy plan ahead of COP31

Energy Minister Bayraktar is due to unveil Turkey’s Milli Enerji 2040 plan in Istanbul.

The government says it is a new energy roadmap shaped by Turkey’s future needs and goal of greater energy independence.

The plan puts more electricity use across the economy at its centre, including in industry, transport, buildings and farming.

It also anticipates billions of dollars in investment in electricity generation and infrastructure.

Turkey aims for renewable sources to provide about 70% of its energy by 2040, which the minister says would support energy security and reduce reliance on imports.

Bayraktar plans to present the targets at the COP31 climate conference in Antalya, scheduled for November 9 to 20.
