OIC Foreign Ministers Meet in Baghdad on Regional Crises
Foreign ministers from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation met in Baghdad for the council’s 52nd session.
The two-day meeting is being held in Iraq’s capital for the first time in 45 years.
Ministers are discussing Palestine, Gaza and regional conflicts, including Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Iraq’s Prime Minister Ali Al Zaidi proposed linking member states’ energy and transport networks, as well as digital communications and payment systems.
The initiative aims to expand co-operation among the organisation’s member states.
The OIC secretary general said he would strengthen preventive diplomacy and use the organisation’s mediation unit to help address the crisis involving the Houthis and Saudi Arabia.
The talks are due to resume the next day to continue discussions and consider draft decisions.
