BCCI to discuss expanding Women's Premier League beyond five teams

India's cricket board is considering adding teams to the Women's Premier League, the country's women's franchise cricket competition.

The league began in 2023 with five teams.

At the 2027 auction in Kochi, about 150 players were in contention, but only around 27 were selected, according to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia.

He said the board will discuss expansion from next year, but no decision to add teams has been announced.

More teams or larger player budgets could give more domestic players a chance to compete at the highest level.

The 2027 season is scheduled to run from January 14 to February 7.
