Arles mayor Patrick de Carolis hospitalized with pulmonary embolism

Arles mayor Patrick de Carolis was hospitalized for several days after doctors diagnosed a pulmonary embolism.

He became short of breath on Tuesday, October 20, while visiting areas affected by flooding in southern France.

He went to hospital on firefighters’ advice and later announced his diagnosis in a statement.

The floods have caused severe damage across the region, with at least four people dead and one missing.

First deputy Mandy Graillon is taking over his duties while he is unavailable.

De Carolis thanked her, the municipal team and city workers for supporting residents.

He hopes to return as soon as possible, but no return date was given.
