Two teenagers killed in crash near Salzburg
A car crash in Nußdorf am Haunsberg, near Salzburg, killed a 16-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy late on Saturday.
Five young people were in the car, driven by a 17-year-old; the two teenagers who died were among three passengers in the back seat.
The three back-seat passengers were not wearing seat belts, and they were thrown from the car when it overturned.
Another 18-year-old passenger was also thrown from the car and seriously injured, while the driver and front passenger were reported to have minor injuries or no injuries.
The car reportedly skidded for an unknown reason, hit stone blocks and rolled several times, leaving a trail of debris more than 100 metres long.
Investigators are checking whether the car was speeding on a road with a 50 km/h limit; a breath test on the driver was negative.
The vehicle’s data devices will be examined, and the expert’s final assessment is expected to take several weeks and will feed into the Salzburg prosecutor’s investigation.
