Renan Lodi misses Brazil squad after making Ancelotti’s preliminary list

Atlético left-back Renan Lodi was left out of Brazil’s final squad after appearing on coach Carlo Ancelotti’s wider preliminary list.

Ancelotti selected Douglas Santos and Carlos Augusto as the squad’s left-backs instead.

Brazil limited call-ups from most Brazilian clubs to one player each to reduce disruption to domestic competition, with Palmeiras and Flamengo exceptions.

Atlético did not ask for Lodi to be left out, and the club has important matches ahead in the Copa do Brasil and Copa Sudamericana.

Brazil will face Japan and Singapore in November friendlies, scheduled for the 14th and 17th.

Lodi has played 19 times for Brazil, most recently against Colombia in November 2023, and a later call-up remains possible.

Due to the Brazilian football calendar, which is being adjusted throughout this year, and for which we have a guarantee for 2027 that the same November international window, which is very complex for the national team and Brazilian clubs because it falls during the final phase of the Brazilian Championship, a CBF product, we debated a lot to create criteria that could balance the national team call-up without harming the clubs.

The criterion used was to call up only one player from each Brazilian club, with the exception of Palmeiras and Flamengo, to avoid interference in the Série A title race.
