Salvador records first weekday with no vehicle robberies since 2012

Salvador recorded no vehicle robberies on Monday, a first on a weekday since the city’s records began in 2012.

The city is the capital of Bahia, in northeastern Brazil.

Vehicle robberies fell 45.8% from January to October 2026 compared with the same months in 2025, with 1,712 cases recorded.

The Bahia state security department linked the decline to joint work by the Apolo Battalion and the vehicle theft and robbery police unit, including intelligence sharing and technology.

Plate-recognition cameras help police find wanted vehicles and alert officers; 322 vehicles were recovered with the technology in 2026.

One account says there were no vehicle robberies or thefts that Monday, while another reports four motorcycle thefts, so the accounts differ on thefts.

Police will continue using the monitoring system to locate vehicles reported stolen or taken by robbery.
