Replit CEO says company has stopped working with Anthropic

Replit CEO Amjad Masad said the company had stopped working with Anthropic, the maker of Claude AI models.

Replit offers a cloud-based platform where people build and launch apps, and it had used Claude to power parts of the service.

Masad cited cost, performance and partnership reasons for the decision, and said Replit now considers ChatGPT better.

But people familiar with the partnership said it was still in place, and Replit’s own posts recently named Anthropic models used in its service.

The two accounts leave the partnership’s status unclear, and Replit was asked to clarify.

Replit announced a partnership with OpenAI in August, while Masad said enterprise contracts grew from about 2% of revenue last year to about 15% this year.

More than half of Replit’s revenue now comes from business customers, according to Masad; he also said safe AI deployment depends on safeguards such as security and error recovery.

It was a decision based on both cost, partnership, and performance. And for all these reasons, we just felt like they were a better partner for now.
