New shelter opens for cyclists on the Weser promenade in Höxter

The Höxter Home and Tourism Association is building a new shelter on the Weser promenade in Höxter, Germany, for people using the busy riverside cycle route.

A previous shelter, built by the association in 2008, was removed when the area was redesigned for the 2023 state garden show.

The new hut gives cyclists a place to shelter from rain and rest in the shade.

It is made of spruce wood and was assembled by a local carpentry firm in one morning after its foundations were prepared.

The project costs about 10,000 euros, with 80 percent covered by EU LEADER funding.

The association is paying the remaining cost, and the carpentry firm has also donated building materials.

Final work is due to be completed before 10 November, after which cyclists can use the shelter.
