BJP candidate wins one Bihar council seat as counting continues

BJP candidate Narendra Prasad Singh won the Tirhut teachers’ seat in Bihar’s Legislative Council elections.

Singh received 2,945 votes, beating independent candidate Bhushan Jha, who got 2,351.

The elections cover eight seats across four graduate and four teachers’ constituencies, with voting held on October 23.

Counting is still under way for the other seven seats, and early counts show different parties and independent candidates leading in several constituencies.

The Patna graduate contest has political stakes for the JD(U) after Mokama MLA Anant Singh backed a Jan Suraaj Party candidate against JD(U)’s Neeraj Kumar; the party expelled Singh for six years.

The final results are expected by Wednesday morning, as ballot papers are being counted.
