Coalition urges Indonesia to complete domestic worker law rules
A civil society coalition in Indonesia is urging the government to complete rules implementing the domestic worker protection law.
The law concerns domestic workers and the households that employ them, but the rules needed to put it into practice remain unfinished.
The coalition says the rules should cover fair pay, rest time and safe working conditions for workers.
It also wants clear guidance on privacy, hiring, duties, cultural differences and how employment can end.
The aim is to give employers clear expectations while protecting workers’ rights and personal privacy.
The coalition also proposes neutral mediation and accessible help when disputes arise.
It wants simple work-agreement examples and a chance for the public to comment as the government develops the rules.

What people are saying
A home has a dual function as a workplace for domestic workers and a family's private space. Close access to children, older people, and personal information requires trust and boundaries that are understood together.
Clarity in the rules is expected to support the fulfillment of workers' rights while also providing certainty for employers.
