Ohio woman, 26, killed in crash hours after celebrating her father's new job

Kreigh Grapel-Barnette and her father celebrated his new job at their Ohio home on September 27, 2026, hours before she died.

The 26-year-old was driving home from a friend's presentation in Cleveland when her car veered off I-480 and hit another vehicle head-on around 11:30 p.m.

Grapel-Barnette and the family in the other car were wearing seatbelts, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers.

Her family believes her shoe may have caught between the accelerator and brake, but that explanation has not been confirmed.

She was taken to hospital and later died from her injuries.

Her father is preserving her achievements in a biographical archive, including her early music work and campaigning for refugee rights; a stone-setting ceremony and celebration of life were held on November 1.
