Syarikat Islam opens new headquarters in Jakarta

Syarikat Islam opened its new headquarters in Jakarta on Friday, with Cooperative Minister Ferry Juliantono and the organization’s president, Hamdan Zoelva, attending.

Juliantono also serves as Syarikat Islam’s secretary-general.

The organization wants the building to support coordination and outreach, as well as work to improve economic opportunities for the Muslim community.

Syarikat Islam plans to promote cooperatives and Islamic finance alongside zakat, waqf and sustainable economic activity.

Juliantono pointed to a possible role for mosque cooperatives, including at Baitur Rahman Mosque, so mosques can support productive economic activity as well as religious life.

The building is expected to help expand these efforts, though no specific timeline or projects were announced.
