Jack Lowden dismisses James Bond casting rumours as speculation grows

Jack Lowden says he will not fuel rumours that he could become the next James Bond.

The Scottish actor, known for playing River Cartwright in the spy series Slow Horses, called the attention flattering and praised his co-star Gary Oldman for backing him.

Oldman had said he heard Bond producers had made their choice, then clarified that he did not know who had been selected.

Lowden and Callum Turner are reported to be among the contenders in the final stages of casting for the role.

Turner was reported to have screen-tested at Bray Studios in Berkshire, but that does not confirm he has been chosen.

Daniel Craig last played Bond in 2021, and Amazon MGM now controls the franchise.

The successor has not been officially named, though an announcement is expected before the end of 2026; the next film is set to be directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Steven Knight.

It’s all very flattering. It’s nice to be mentioned – for any role – and I’m just not really going to add to the noise

They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack

We are being really, really methodical. I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is stirring, exciting and different
