India raises sports event aid ceiling to Rs 50 crore
India’s Sports Ministry has revised its funding scheme for national sports federations, raising the event-aid ceiling to Rs 50 crore for some international tournaments hosted in the country.
The scheme runs from 2026-27 to 2030-31 and has a total budget of Rs 7,386.74 crore.
The maximum is not guaranteed: support depends on the event, participation levels and a committee’s assessment of each proposal.
The highest ceiling applies to certain senior World Championships in Olympic sports, with lower limits for other competitions and traditional sports.
The scheme can also fund National Games, athlete training and coaching, as well as equipment and event costs.
It proposes sport-specific Olympic Training Centres to provide elite athletes with facilities, expert staff and sports science support in India.
Federations must also direct funding to grassroots development and coach training, as the government prepares for the 2030 Commonwealth Games and pursues its bid to host the 2036 Olympics.
The Sports Ministry has raised the maximum assistance for eligible international tournaments hosted in India to Rs 50 crore.
The revised scheme increases the previous ceiling from Rs 2 crore and applies to National Sports Federations.
The government approved the scheme for 2026-27 to 2030-31, with a total outlay of Rs 7,386.74 crore.
Assistance is not automatic and depends on the event, participation levels and assessment of proposals.
The revised scheme also provides up to Rs 50 crore for the National Games and proposes sport-specific Olympic Training Centres.
