Indonesia recommends suspending Bekasi school after abuse allegations

Indonesia’s Religious Affairs Ministry recommended suspending Dar Et Tauhid boarding school in Bekasi, West Java, after a teacher was named a suspect in alleged sexual abuse.

Police arrested and detained the teacher, identified as MHH, over allegations involving 10 female students.

Police said the alleged abuse began in 2024 and continued until September 2026; the case came to light after a victim’s family reported it.

The ministry says students have returned home and will continue learning through distance education or other arrangements.

It has asked the school to appoint a qualified replacement leader and remove anyone involved in the case from their duties and contact with students.

Before classes resume, the school must improve child-protection rules, reporting channels and supervision, and support for victims.

The West Java religious affairs office can also help families move students to other schools if they request it.
