Man arrested after two stepbrothers are killed in Mataporquera

Two stepbrothers, aged 24 and 26, were killed early Friday in Mataporquera, a town in Cantabria, northern Spain.

A 52-year-old local man was arrested as the suspected attacker after the Guardia Civil was called to a fight shortly before 4.30 a.m.

The two men were found with serious injuries in and near the entrance to their home, and both died.

The three men had clashed earlier that day, and investigators say an earlier incident preceded the fatal attack.

The Guardia Civil found a bloodied weapon at the scene and seized it for analysis.

Investigators are still working to establish what happened, and the arrested man was taken to a psychiatric unit in a Santander hospital.
