Sony releases PS5 firmware update as jailbreak efforts continue

Sony has released PS5 firmware update 26.07-14.20.00, which is available to download now.

Sony says it improves messages and usability on some screens, and does not mention security changes.

The update arrives as homebrew developers work to jailbreak the PS5, after recent jailbreaks supported older versions of the console software.

Jailbreaking lets users modify a console and can potentially enable game piracy.

Some PS5 games require newer firmware to download updates, creating pressure for jailbreak developers to support the latest versions.

This has raised concerns about whether a jailbreak could affect GTA 6, which is due out on November 19, though there is no evidence that this update responds to a jailbreak or that the game will require this version.

Sony may release another security update before the game launches, but no further update has been confirmed.
