Renaissance Partners targets Italian family firms for international growth
Renaissance Partners backs Italian family businesses that lead in specialised markets and sell abroad, founder Fabio Canè said at the Nova conference in New York.
The firm focuses on what Canè called a dynamic “second Italy”, despite concerns about slow economic growth, an ageing population and public debt.
Digital technology use among Italian small and medium-sized firms rose from 60% to nearly 80% in four years, he said.
Renaissance Partners and Aurora have raised nearly 5 billion euros in capital, and the firm invests in these businesses to support their international expansion.
Specialist Italian firms cut their debt ratio from 49% to below 30%, while Renaissance Partners’ portfolio companies earn 60% of their revenue abroad.
The firm also funds three university scholarships each year to help counter the loss of skilled graduates.
In May, it plans to present a study on Italy’s ability to retain talent at the next annual assembly of AdEPP.
