Indonesian Police Open Investigation Into Alleged Gold-Mine Investment Fraud

Indonesian police have opened a criminal investigation into suspected fraud or embezzlement linked to a gold-mine investment.

The case involves a Malaysian investor and police officer Fahrurozi, a former senior officer at the National Police’s criminal investigation agency.

The investor says they put Rp58.5 billion into a North Sulawesi gold-mine venture in several payments from May to October 2025.

The investor’s lawyer says only Rp4 billion was returned, in February 2026.

The police say they have questioned 19 witnesses and are still collecting evidence; the case’s new status does not establish that anyone is guilty.

The complaint was filed in August 2026, and the investigation was formally advanced after a case review on October 13.

The investor’s lawyer says the case should proceed transparently, while investigators continue building the case under the law.
