Podemos puts Irene Montero at the centre of its election campaign

Podemos is centring its campaign on Irene Montero ahead of Spain’s general election on 29 November.

Campaign materials use her first name and image, while leaving out the party’s name, logo and familiar purple colour.

The slogan, “Peace, home and work,” points to the campaign’s focus on housing, household finances, jobs, care and peace.

The move comes after Podemos lost representation in several regional parliaments and split from Sumar, leaving it in the mixed group in Spain’s Congress.

The party is putting Montero ahead of its own brand as it seeks to connect with a wider group of voters.

Its campaign website presents her proposals and lets people donate or volunteer, while Montero is not currently planning to leave her seat in the European Parliament.
