iPhone Duo Lacks FaceTime Eye Contact Setting
The iPhone Duo is missing FaceTime’s Eye Contact setting, which makes callers appear to look into the camera during video calls.
Apple introduced the feature in iOS 14, and it uses machine learning to adjust the user’s eyes.
The missing setting is not likely to be because the Duo lacks Face ID, since some Touch ID iPhones have the feature.
One possible reason is that the Duo’s inner camera sits to the right of the screen’s center, where a caller’s face usually appears.
Its folding design also changes how the camera lines up with a user’s gaze, which could make the adjustment harder.
Apple has been asked for a technical explanation, but no response is included.
The iPhone Duo does not include FaceTime’s Eye Contact setting, MacRumors confirmed.
Eye Contact subtly adjusts a caller’s eyes to make it appear they are looking at the camera.
The feature has been available since iOS 14, and iPhone SE models with Touch ID include it.
MacRumors said the Duo’s lack of Face ID and a TrueDepth camera is unlikely to explain the omission.
One possible reason is that the Duo’s inner-display camera sits to the right of the screen’s center, and its position relative to a user’s gaze changes with the device’s orientation.
