Attempt to sell Málaga homeowner’s property using stolen identity collapses

Francisco Rodríguez’s Málaga home was put up for sale without his consent after someone allegedly used his identity.

Rodríguez owns one home, in the Teatinos district, and says his personal details may have been stolen in 2025.

Two alleged buyers signed an option to buy the property in Barcelona in March 2025, with a 36-month period and a price the owner estimated was 40% below its current value.

The buyers say they were also victims and paid €128,000, while €50,000 was deposited as an advance into an account opened online using false identity details.

The €50,000 was later withdrawn, and its whereabouts are unknown.

The planned completion in Málaga did not go ahead because the alleged buyers did not attend.

Rodríguez and the Barcelona notary have filed complaints, and police are investigating; the Catalan Notaries Association says it will join any court case as a private prosecutor if one begins.
