Samuele Lodi elected head of Italy’s FIOM-CGIL metalworkers’ union

Samuele Lodi has been elected head of FIOM-CGIL, Italy’s metalworkers’ union within the CGIL trade union confederation.

The union’s central committee assembly chose him with 98.74% of the vote.

He replaces Michele De Palma, who joined CGIL’s national leadership on 14 September.

Lodi, born in Cento in 1970, joined FIOM when he began working at a metalworking company in 1989.

He later led FIOM in Ferrara and Emilia-Romagna and coordinated the union’s work at shipbuilder Fincantieri.

Since 2023, he has overseen FIOM’s mobility sector, covering automotive, shipbuilding and rail.

He now leads the union representing metalworkers across those industries.
