Russian attacks kill eight and damage energy facilities across Ukraine

Russian attacks killed eight people and injured 67 across Ukraine over the day reported on October 23.

The strikes hit several regions, including Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk, and caused heavy casualties in the city of Lozova.

Russia also launched 176 long-range drones overnight, and Ukraine’s air defenses shot down 140 of them.

Strikes on energy facilities triggered emergency power cuts in eight regions, while one thermal power plant stopped generating electricity.

Energy workers were working to repair damaged facilities as Ukraine prepared for a potentially difficult winter.

In Kyiv, residents have increasingly been sleeping in subway stations because shelters are scarce and attacks have intensified.

Civilian deaths and damage to power supplies show how the attacks affect daily life far beyond the front lines.
