Puebla honors public safety workers and proposes housing reform

Puebla Governor Alejandro Armenta honored public safety and environmental workers at the 13th Puebla Agradece ceremony.

He said their work helped reduce 15 crimes from January to September 2026 compared with the same period in 2025.

The state reported a 26% drop in intentional homicides and declines in several other crimes, including femicides, kidnappings and extortion.

The area affected by forest fires also fell from 30,000 to 6,000 hectares, according to Armenta.

A proposed reform would restore the ISSSTEP’s role in building homes for police, firefighters, forest guards and civil protection staff.

The governor said the institute has 1 billion pesos for the plan, alongside a project for 500 homes in Lomas de San Miguel.

The state Congress has received the reform proposal, but the sources do not say whether it has been approved.
