Duisburg cyclist dies five weeks after collision with lorry

A 71-year-old cyclist has died after a collision with a lorry in Duisburg, Germany.

The crash happened on 14 September at the junction of Max-Peters-Straße and Ruhrdeich, and she died in hospital on 22 October.

She had suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital by rescue helicopter after the collision.

Witnesses said she had ridden across a traffic island, while the lorry driver, travelling towards Mülheim, braked hard but could not prevent the impact.

Police are still investigating how the crash happened, and witness accounts do not establish its cause.

A forensic examination has been ordered at the request of Duisburg prosecutors, but it has not yet taken place.
