Storm-damaged power line causes outage in Rotkreuz

A storm-damaged overhead power line caused a widespread outage in Rotkreuz, in Switzerland’s canton of Zug, on Friday evening.

Power failed in parts of the municipality of Risch at about 9:20 p.m., and some streetlights also went out.

Witnesses reported a strong gust of wind before the lights went off, while some thought they saw lightning.

Specialists found a damaged wire hanging from the line on Holzhäusernstrasse shortly before midnight.

Most areas had power again by 11:15 p.m., but the Dersbach and Freudenberg neighbourhoods remained without electricity.

All areas were reconnected by 2:45 a.m., and the utility said the disruption had been resolved.
