Trans women attacked in Palermo, prompting condemnation from Argentine artists

A group of 50 to 60 young people attacked trans sex workers in the Palermo Woods in Buenos Aires on the night of November 1 and early morning of November 2.

The victims were chased, insulted and hit with sticks, branches, traffic cones and stones near the Regatas Lake.

The attackers filmed the assault and posted it online, with messages describing a hunt for trans people.

Neighbours and passing drivers alerted police, but officers arrived after both the victims and the attackers had left.

No arrests or formal complaints had been reported by Tuesday afternoon.

Singers Lali Espósito, Tini Stoessel and María Becerra were among the Argentine artists who publicly condemned the attack and voiced support for the trans community.

Becerra urged people to attend the Pride March on November 7, where she is due to perform on the main stage.
