Vito Quiles abandons planned event at Barcelona university after protests

On Monday, Vito Quiles abandoned his planned event at the Autonomous University of Barcelona, or UAB, in Spain.

The university had denied permission for the event and said police would prevent him from entering campus.

About 1,000 people gathered to protest his visit, while a smaller group of his supporters was also there.

After some objects hit a police cordon, Catalan police charged at protesters to disperse the crowd.

Quiles was stopped at a campus entrance and moved the event to an IKEA in Sabadell, though the sources do not say whether it took place there.

The university had concerns because his visit the previous year also led to unrest on campus.
