Antonelli can clinch Formula 1 title in Mexico

Kimi Antonelli is close to winning the Formula 1 title after building a 123-point lead over Mercedes teammate George Russell.

He also leads Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton by 124 points, with 125 points available across the five remaining races.

An Italian driver has not won the title since Alberto Ascari in 1953, so Antonelli could end a 73-year wait.

In Mexico, ninth place would be enough if Russell wins the race.

If Hamilton wins, Antonelli would need to finish at least 10th; if neither rival wins, Antonelli would clinch the title whatever his result.

The season is listed as having five races left, though the Qatar and Abu Dhabi rounds are still in doubt, and the Mexico race is the next chance for Antonelli to secure the championship.
