Mahadev betting app co-promoter Ravi Uppal reportedly arrested in Dubai

Ravi Uppal was reportedly arrested in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates, in connection with India’s investigation into the Mahadev online betting app.

Uppal co-founded the app with Saurabh Chandrakar, who was recently extradited from Oman to India.

An Interpol Red Notice was issued for Uppal at the request of Indian investigating agencies.

UAE authorities have not officially confirmed the arrest to India, and Indian officials say they are seeking information through formal channels.

Investigators allege the platform enabled illegal betting on cricket, football and other events, with money moved through hawala channels and bank accounts.

Estimates of suspected proceeds differ: one agency estimate puts them at about ₹6,000 crore, while another cited estimate for the app and linked platforms is around ₹94,000 crore.

Indian agencies are working to pursue Uppal’s extradition, while the wider investigation examines the money trail and alleged beneficiaries.

Uppal is a vital cog in the entire Mahadev organisation. He handled hawala deliveries running into hundreds of crores of rupees and was also the principal point of contact to liaise with the politicians and bureaucrats in Chhattisgarh. His interrogation will be crucial to establishing the money trail and identifying the beneficiaries of the illegal proceeds,
