Household loans at five major South Korean banks rise by 2.6 trillion won
Household loans at five major South Korean banks rose by more than 2.6 trillion won this month.
They had fallen last month, the first decline in six months.
The loans have now returned to growth after one month.
The increase is linked to more people borrowing to buy homes.
Home prices continued to rise around Seoul and in southern Gyeonggi province, adding to demand for these loans.
The figures show borrowing is rising again as buyers respond to price gains.
Household loans at South Korea’s five major banks rose by 2.6057 trillion won from the end of September to October 22.
The increase reversed a decline recorded in September, when lending fell for the first time in six months.
Mortgage loans rose by 999.5 billion won, while credit loans increased by 1.121 trillion won.
Banks and news reports attributed the rise partly to stronger housing demand in Seoul and southern Gyeonggi Province.
