JPMorgan invests $5 billion in US security and resilience companies

JPMorgan Chase invested $5 billion in companies during the first year of its US security and resilience initiative.

The investments include startups and other companies working in defense, manufacturing, energy and supply chains.

The bank launched the initiative a year ago as concerns about reliance on overseas suppliers grew.

It has taken stakes in defense startups Hadrian, which builds automated factories, and Castelion, which is developing a hypersonic missile.

Separately, JPMorgan says it has financed about $230 billion for industries supporting US national interests since the initiative began.

Its original plan was to finance $1.5 trillion in US investments over a decade, and co-president Douglas Petno said the startup investment program could grow beyond its initial target.
