Officer says investigators recorded a false statement in Veena George case

Former Kannur Town Sub-Inspector Deepti told a special investigation team that investigators recorded a false statement in her name about a protest against former Kerala minister Veena George.

Deepti said the first investigation team never took a statement from her, even though she had been assigned to protect George at Kannur railway station.

The protest by five KSU activists took place there on February 25, 2026, and the police initially registered attempted murder and other serious charges.

George’s former gunman, Abhilash, has since told the team he did not see the activists attack her and that he made his earlier claim of an armed attack at George’s direction.

The five activists were jailed for two weeks before being released on bail, and attempted murder and weapons charges were later dropped from the charge sheet.

The SIT is examining how the serious charges were brought and plans to send the police chief a report recommending action against Abhilash.

It has also recorded statements from the activists and plans to question the railway police inspector who registered the case.
