Brazilian court blocks Meta from using news content without permission
A São Paulo court temporarily blocked Meta’s new terms for news publishers after three Brazilian media associations challenged them.
The rules, due to take effect on November 20, would have allowed Meta to use automated tools to access and analyze articles, photos and videos, including to develop and train AI systems.
The court’s order bars unauthorized use of publishers’ content, including material protected by copyright.
Meta must keep the associations’ members’ accounts, pages and tools working, without restrictions or penalties for refusing the terms.
Meta faces a daily R$1 million fine if it breaks the order, capped at R$100 million.
The injunction is temporary and will remain in force until a final ruling in the case.
