Volkswagen joins up European driver-assistance development
Volkswagen is combining its European driver-assistance development in a new organisation covering driver-assistance systems and highly automated driving.
The unit, called OneTeam, brings together Cariad and Volkswagen’s car brands to work on these technologies.
It is due to formally start work in November and will be led by Cariad driver-assistance technology chief Manuel Birke, who will report to Audi and Cariad leadership.
Volkswagen says the aim is faster, more direct cooperation and a technology platform that can be used across the group.
The change comes as Volkswagen’s software company Cariad shifts toward developing fewer technologies itself and working with outside partners such as Xpeng and Rivian.
Cariad has cut its workforce from about 6,500 to 4,300 since the end of 2023, and about 1,000 more jobs are expected to go.
Further details of OneTeam have not yet been disclosed.
