Hyogo medical center cuts senior nurse’s pay over harassment

A senior nurse at a medical center in Ono, Hyogo, was disciplined for shouting at a subordinate.

The incident happened last September after the subordinate was late with a work report.

The nurse demanded to know whether the employee could take responsibility, and the center later found the conduct was workplace harassment.

The employee became unwell and took 90 days of medical leave.

The medical center’s governing body announced a one-month pay cut of one-tenth for the nurse, effective October 14.

The nurse said she had gone too far.

The case followed a complaint from the subordinate and an investigation by the center.
