Indonesia shifts nearly Rp 200 trillion in budget spending

He spoke at a business leaders’ meeting in Jakarta on Friday.

Suahasil said natural disasters, including floods and forest and land fires, were not planned for and have required about Rp 60 trillion in extra funds.
Higher energy subsidies and compensation are also adding to costs, as the government seeks to keep energy prices from disrupting economic activity.
Suahasil said the government is adjusting spending and revenue to cover these needs, and expects the budget deficit to reach 2.85% of economic output, up from 2.68%.

What people are saying
In a spending scale of Rp 3.843 trillion, perhaps nearly Rp 200 trillion has now been shifted around.
We never planned for it. We never budgeted for natural disasters, including forest and land fires that we have to handle now.
We want a better-targeted subsidy policy, but in the short term we see this as necessary to hold prices so economic activity can continue.
